Electric Models
We started off with our DF line of 6, 7 & 8 string tappers as a simple and cost effective gateway into the world of tapping. The longer scale-length and sleek, sculpted body of our DF-L models (8 &10 string) offer a bit more ‘beef’ without becoming heavy or clumsy.
Acoustic Models
Our nylon-string acoustics (6, 8, 10 & 12 strings) offer a beautiful, balanced acoustic tone for playing unplugged, either for practise or personal pleasure, but they also come equipped with pickups to capture that sound for playing live and recording.
Semi Acoustic Models
Our semi-acoustics (6 to 12 strings) offer a unique musical experience somewhere between an electric and an acoustic. They are hollow bodied with a fully acoustic top, and include our standard pickup choice with additional onboard passive feedback suppression.
ABOUT US
Mark Harrington is the main designer/builder behind the models you see here. Born in New Zealand, he is now based in Patagonia, working from his small home workshop in the south of Argentina. He’s been designing, making and fixing instruments since his early 20’s and started Dragonfly Tapping Instruments back in 2013 with a minimalist line of electric tappers. He now spends most of his time focussed on building the acoustic models, developing new ideas and overseeing the whole enterprise as he works in collaboration with other experienced colleagues to bring you the full range of models currently available.
The overall design philosophy is one of simplicity and elegance, where musical value is prioritised over superfluous flashiness. Instruments are made one at a time in a very simple handmade fashion, using power tools and modest technology where appropriate … all towards the goal of offering some unique, high quality musical tools for the tapping/touchstyle universe, at a price that won’t break your bank!
While Mark has enjoyed exploring tapping on strings from early on, he still considers it as just part of the wider musical toolbox. Frankly he attempts to play just about any instrument he can get his hands on, and has more ideas for new instruments than he will ever possibly be able to make in one lifetime! His eclectic yet distinct style of music can be heard here.
